2. Customizing Undertones, Shades & Proportions
Welcome to Part 2 of my breakdown on Braided Hairstyles For Black Women.
Before you lock in your final formula or outfit pairing, here is how I adapt the tones and textures for each client.

Finding Your Most Flattering Version
For deeper skin tones with warm undertones, I love adding subtle caramel or honey highlights to the curls.
It catches the light and adds dimension.
If you’re cooler-toned, try jet black or a deep burgundy to make the braids pop against your skin.
Texture-wise, you can go from tight, defined coils for a more polished vibe to loose, boho waves for something effortless.
I adjust the curl size based on face shape.
Smaller curls for rounder faces, larger waves for longer faces to create balance.
✦ Which Finish Fits Your Vibe?
- Velvet Rose-Gold Glow: Effortless, soft-focus dimension that flatters every skin tone in daytime or candlelight.
- High-Impact Statement Finish: Crisp lines, rich pigment payoff, and bold contrast for evening events or street-style photos.
- Balanced Proportions: Keep one feature bold while letting the surrounding textures stay airy and breathable.
Always check how the finish and proportions look in both natural window light and warm indoor lighting so the result feels effortless from every angle.
