3. My Step-by-Step Studio Application & Styling Routine
In Part 3 of our guide to Get the Look: How to do Retro Jessica Rabbit Waves, let’s talk hands-on technique.
You don’t need a professional backstage kit if you layer your prep in the right order.

Pin Look
How I Recreate It in Under 15 Minutes
Start with a deep side part and apply a heat protectant, then use a 1-inch curling iron to create uniform curls, wrapping away from the face.
Once cool, brush through gently with a paddle brush to soften, then use your fingers to mold the hair into S-shaped waves, pinning each one in place.
Let the pins sit for 10 minutes to set the shape, then remove and finish with a shine spray and a light-hold hairspray.
For extra staying power, I tuck a few bobby pins behind the ears to keep the waves from flopping forward during dancing.

Always check how the finish and proportions look in both natural window light and warm indoor lighting so the result feels effortless from every angle.
Keeping a saved reference photo on your phone makes it easy to compare subtle details, textures, and color harmony before you start.
