2. Customizing Undertones, Shades & Proportions
Welcome to Part 2 of my breakdown on Elegant Braided Ponytail for Curly Hair.
Before you lock in your final formula or outfit pairing, here is how I adapt the tones and textures for each client.

Pin Look
Finding Your Most Flattering Version
For warmer undertones, I’d lean into honey and caramel highlights woven through the braid to catch the light.
If your skin has cooler undertones, ask your colorist for ash or mocha tones to create that same dimensional effect.
Texture-wise, you can go tighter with a Dutch braid for a bolder look.
Or looser with a fishtail for something softer.
The key is matching the braid’s tension to your curl pattern.
Tighter for fine curls, looser for thick ones.
✦ Which Finish Fits Your Vibe?
- Velvet Rose-Gold Glow: Effortless, soft-focus dimension that flatters every skin tone in daytime or candlelight.
- High-Impact Statement Finish: Crisp lines, rich pigment payoff, and bold contrast for evening events or street-style photos.
- Balanced Proportions: Keep one feature bold while letting the surrounding textures stay airy and breathable.
Always check how the finish and proportions look in both natural window light and warm indoor lighting so the result feels effortless from every angle.
