2. Customizing Undertones, Shades & Proportions
Welcome to Part 2 of my breakdown on 4+ Formal Black Tie Fall Wedding Guest Dress Ideas.
Before you lock in your final formula or outfit pairing, here is how I adapt the tones and textures for each client.

Finding Your Most Flattering Version
If you have cool undertones, swap the burgundy for a deep emerald or navy.
And shift your berry lip to a classic red with blue undertones.
For warm undertones, stick with jewel tones like ruby or amethyst.
And add a touch of gold shimmer on the inner corners of your eyes.
Texture-wise, if the dress is heavily embellished, go for a matte finish on the skin and keep eyeshadow satin rather than glittery.
If the dress is simple and sleek, you can afford a little more dimension with a subtle metallic lid and a glossy lip.
Just keep it to one focal point.
✦ Which Finish Fits Your Vibe?
- Velvet Rose-Gold Glow: Effortless, soft-focus dimension that flatters every skin tone in daytime or candlelight.
- High-Impact Statement Finish: Crisp lines, rich pigment payoff, and bold contrast for evening events or street-style photos.
- Balanced Proportions: Keep one feature bold while letting the surrounding textures stay airy and breathable.
